THE HOUSE ON BADEM CHURCH ROAD since 1887
Annapurna was never built to be a hotel. It was built as a family house — laterite walls two feet thick, a pillared balcão facing the lane, and oyster-shell windows that turn the afternoon into something soft and gold.
Four generations lived here. Then it stood empty for nineteen years, and the jackfruit tree took the back wall. We spent three years putting it right — the same lime plaster, the same red-oxide floors, the same doors, rehung.
There are eight rooms now. Everything else is exactly where it was.
